Community safety boosted with 31 new officers
Thirty-one new custodial correctional officers were sworn into their front line role in public safety at a ceremony at the Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) Academy.
QCS Commissioner Peter Martin APM congratulated the graduates completing the Custodial Officer Entry Program (COEP).
“The training our officers undertake ensures they are prepared to take on the challenges of working within a correctional environment each day,” Commissioner Martin said.
“Today’s graduates join their colleagues on the front line of public safety in a top tier agency, striving to help transform the lives of those in our care while performing a vital role to help keep the community safe.
“I expect all QCS officers to use the five principles of Corrections 2030 – Safety, Excellence, Empowerment, Respect and Accountability – as a roadmap as we strive towards word-class corrective services,” Commissioner Martin said.
The COEP graduates will be stationed at a number of correctional centres and commands within QCS, including:
- 16 officers to Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre
- 8 officers to Brisbane Correctional Centre
- 5 officers to Woodford Correctional Centre
- 1 officer to Borallon Training and Correctional Centre
- 1 officer to the Escort and Security Branch.
Commissioner Martin encouraged people from all walks of life to consider the challenge of a career in corrective services.
“We are looking for passionate people to join the QCS family – people who want to transform lives on the front line of public safety and improve the safety of the community,” Commissioner Martin said.
“We recently kicked off our largest recruitment campaign in QCS’ history, with roles available across the State.
“If you think you have what it takes, I encourage you to apply,” Commissioner Martin said.
