When is the centre opening?

Commissioning of the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre will commence late 2024. Roles are being advertised on the SmartJobs website. To be alerted when new positions are available you can register on the SmartJobs website. Please be aware, if you are successful in securing a role you may be deployed to another Queensland Corrective Services centre in Southeast Queensland in the interim as part of your onboarding experience and training.

More than 800 roles are available at the new centre, with career opportunities including custodial correctional officers, trade instructors, psychologists, administration officers, education officers and more.

Roles in our centres can be challenging, however just like any workplace, listening and talking through problems to create solutions work best. Our teams are caring, empathetic and supportive and we always have each other’s back. The environment at our new centre has been specifically designed with safety in mind.

What hours will I work?

To ensure a healthy work-life balance, we offer flexible working arrangements including condensed working weeks for some positions. Other flexible working arrangements that are available include casual and part-time work, purchased leave, and working from home for some positions.

What is it like living and working in the Lockyer Valley

The new men's correctional centre near Gatton is in the Lockyer Valley, which is the picturesque 'food bowl' of Southeast Queensland. The Lockyer Valley region and surrounding towns offer country living with city convenience which makes it an attractive location to live and work. The new centre is just over 30mins drive from Toowoomba, 42mins from Ipswich or just over 1 hour from Brisbane City. Careers in corrections offer great salaries and job security. For example, salaries for Custodial Correctional Officers ranges from $81,645 to $117,152, inclusive of leave loading, superannuation and allowances. Other roles, such as administration and allied health are competitive and comparative to similar roles across the Queensland public sector.

Is there an age limit for applicants?

Anybody can work at our centre. There is no age limit, however for custodial correctional roles you do need to successfully complete our assessment centre which includes a medical and fitness test.

What experience do I need?

For the role of Custodial Correctional Officer, you don't require any prior experience or qualifications. Some positions require mandatory qualifications, however this will always be listed within the role description.

Do I need to provide my own meals and uniforms?

Staff will be provided with meals while onsite, with uniforms being provided within the first week of employment.

Is training offered?

Every staff member at our new centre will receive comprehensive onboarding specifically designed in accordance with evidence-based practices. On-the-job training and professional development opportunities will also be available.
