Queensland’s newest prison in more than a decade is filling, and nearly 900 prisoners have already been received at the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre.

The 1536-bed high security prison is being brought online through controlled stages to ensure the safety of officers, prisoners, and the community.

The new facility has the highest security standards in Queensland, with an increased emphasis on rehabilitation and reintegration so there are fewer victims of crime.

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) is now filling 100 Gatton-based jobs to work at the new centre and the neighbouring Southern Queensland Correctional Centre for women.

Locals looking for a permanent, secure job with good work life balance and an interest in improving community safety are encouraged to apply. The next assessment centres in Gatton are being held on 24 and 25 February for paid training beginning in March and April.

Deputy Commissioner, Custodial Operations, Jon Peach encouraged people from all walks of life and background skills to apply for one of the many roles available.

“A career in corrections is fulfilling, and if you’re eager to improve community safety, we want to hear from you,” Deputy Commissioner Peach said.

“Many of our officers joined corrections after seeking a career change from the armed forces, education, policing, construction or farming and bring their unique skills to the role.

“Anyone looking for a meaningful career with work life balance should take a look to see if their skills and experience are transferable to working in community safety.”
