30 new corrective service officers join QCS

Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) has welcomed 30 new custodial correctional officers in a ceremony that was held at the QCS Academy yesterday.

The new officers, recently completing the Custodial Officer Entry Level Program (COEP), will take on their roles as agents of change at Brisbane, Borallon, and Woodford Correctional Centres.

Commissioner Peter Martin APM welcomed the new officers to the front line of public safety in Queensland.

“The training our officers undertake ensures they are prepared to take on the challenges of working within a correctional environment each day,” Commissioner Martin said.

“Today’s graduates join their colleagues on the front line of public safety in a top tier agency, striving to help transform the lives of those in our care while performing a vital role to help keep the community safe.

“Every interaction our officer have with the people in our custody is a chance to change their behaviour for the better, increasing the security of the centre and, eventually, community safety”

Six officers will commence duty at Borallon Training and Correctional Centre, twenty-two at Brisbane Correctional Centre and two officers at Woodford Correctional Centre in the coming weeks.

Commissioner Martin said there are many career paths in corrective services across the state and encouraged people from all walks of life to consider the challenge.

“We are looking for passionate people to join the QCS family – people who want to transform lives on the front line of public safety and improve the safety of the community,” Commissioner Martin said.
