Capricornia Correctional Centre welcomes new General Manager
Capricornia Correctional Centre’s new General Manager has been named.
Chief Superintendent Richard Butcher will take up the role as General Manager at the centre in coming weeks.
Deputy Commissioner Custodial Operations Gary McCahon said that Ch Supt. Butcher would bring a wealth of corrections and management experience to the position of General Manager at the centre.
“Ch Supt. Butcher’s career began in the UK Prison Service where over 24 years he progressed to Deputy Governor, working across areas including physical education, prisoner management, security, custody and re-settlement,” Deputy Commissioner McCahon said.
“Ch Supt. Butcher previously worked for Department of Corrections WA and started as General Manager at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre at Mareeba in Far North Queensland in 2019.
“He is highly regarded not only by his colleagues in Queensland Corrective Services, but by our stakeholders across the judicial system.
“I have every faith that Ch Supt. Butcher will be warmly received by the staffing group at Capricornia Correctional Centre as they finalise the redevelopment which will effectively double the capacity of the centre.
Ch Supt. Butcher will be supported by Deputy General Manager Superintendent Robert Axford,” DC McCahon said.
