COVID-19 update, Victoria community transmission
To ensure the safety of officers and prisoners, visitors to our prisons will be screened to ensure they have not been to Victoria recently.
On advice of the Chief Health Officer, we are restricting access to anyone who has been in Victoria in the last 14 days or since 21 December 2020 (whichever period is shorter).
Any officers who have been to Victoria in that timeframe will also need to isolate, undergo a COVID-19 test and wait for their results.
Commissioner Peter Martin APM said the safety of our officers and the prisoners in our care was a priority.
“As we adapt to living with COVID-19, we will continue to act on the advice of Queensland Health,” Commissioner Martin said.
“It is extremely important that we do everything we can to prevent COVID-19 entering our correctional facilities.”
“Our planning has served us well throughout the pandemic, and I would like to thank everyone for their patience as we continue to live with this virus.”
Visitors can continue to stay in contact with loved ones via virtual visits, prisoner email, voicemail and regular mail services.
