Largest ever graduation boosts Capricornia Correctional Centre

The first Queensland Corrective Services graduation of the year saw a record 37 new officers joining the ranks at Capricornia Correctional Centre on Friday.

It was the largest ever graduation of Custodial Correctional Officers in Rockhampton.

Deputy Commissioner Koulouris congratulated the graduates on successfully completing the entry program and welcomed them into the corrective services field during a period of significant reform.

“Queensland Corrective Services is committed to becoming a top tier front line public safety agency which is undergoing transformational change and growth,” Deputy Commissioner Koulouris said.

“Working for QCS is deeply meaningful – we transform lives, and communities, every single day. Working for QCS means working at the front line of public safety or providing direct support to those who do.

“All our officers, including today’s graduates, undertake training and are equipped to ensure they are prepared to take on the challenges of working in a correctional environment every day.

“It is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the QCS as we all work together to make the community safe through our five guiding principles of Corrections 2030: safety, excellence, empowerment, accountability and respect,” Deputy Commissioner Koulouris said.

“I expect all our officers to use these guiding principles as a roadmap as we all continue to develop our culture and strive for best practice as a world class corrective service.

“Today’s graduates come from a multitude of backgrounds, but all follow a fine tradition to join the QCS ranks and boost safety across Queensland.

“I have the utmost respect for all our officers working in the correctional system. They are performing an important and challenging public service, and I welcome these new officers to the QCS family.”
