New Beenleigh Community Corrections office opens
Minister for Corrective Services, Mark Ryan MP and the Commissioner of Queensland Corrective Services (QCS), Paul Stewart APM officially opened the new Beenleigh Community Corrections office at a ceremony last week.
The office is a new space for the 22 full time officers who supervise more than 650 offenders across the district and provided a modern office environment with increased electronic and CCTV security.
Minister Mark Ryan said the new office supported QCS officers by improving safety, building capacity for the office to double the number of officers at the site and improve service delivery outcomes.
“Beenleigh Community Corrections supervisor offenders across 44 suburbs west to Kooralbyn (north to Bethania), South to Pimpama and east to the shoreline,” Minister Ryan said.
“These dedicated officers perform an incredibly important public safety role, aiding in the rehabilitation of offenders and it is extremely important they are supported with a fit-for-purpose workplace.”
“Every day these officers act as agents of change, addressing offending behaviour and engaging in their local communities through the delivery of community service projects. Their work is often unseen by the community, but they are extremely skilled in rehabilitation and provide a vital public service.”
Queensland Corrective Services Commissioner Paul Stewart APM said the new office space improved the safety for officers and those attending the facility.
“As Commissioner, I am committed to the safety of our officers by providing them with the safety possible work environments that are fit-for-purpose,” Commissioner Stewart said.
“This facility is able to accommodate a growing number of officers to supervise offenders in the Beenleigh community.”
The Beenleigh Community Corrections office contains seven interview rooms, three interview pods, one program room and a urinalysis room.
