New correctional officers join frontline in Rockhampton as recruitment opens for 2026

Queensland Corrective Services welcomed 19 new Custodial Correctional Officers to the frontline of public safety in Rockhampton today (8 December 2025) where they will work toward making Queensland safer.

The new officers will be deployed to Capricornia Correctional Centre after completing the Custodial Officer Entry Program, which equipped them with fundamental skills in conflict management, tactical skills and QCS policies and legislation.

As part of their dynamic, varied and rewarding new careers, the CCOs will work to stop the cycle of reoffending through the safe and secure management of prisoners and correctional facilities, with a range of roles available to grow their careers.

Queensland Corrective Services is actively recruiting for Custodial Correctional Officers in the Rockhampton region. The first training course in Rockhampton for the new year starts on 27 January and people interested in more information on how to apply should visit the careers pages on the QCS website for detail.

Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber congratulated the graduating officers for completing their training.

“Corrective Services officers play a critical role protecting our communities and supporting the rehabilitation of offenders to make Queensland safer,” Minister Gerber said.

“Congratulations to the new graduates, I wish them the best as they embark on this exciting step in their careers.”

QCS Assistant Commissioner Operational Support Command, Darryll Fleming welcomed the new officers and congratulated them on their graduation.

“It was wonderful to shake the hands of our new officers today and thank them for their commitment to making Queensland safer,” Assistant Commissioner Fleming said.

“Working on the frontline of public safety is deeply meaningful work, every interaction our officers have is an opportunity to address offending behaviour and to improve the vocational and life skills of prisoners, assisting in their rehabilitation and safe reintegration back into the community.

“We are actively recruiting in the Rockhampton region for people with good communication skills and a desire to make a positive difference. Many of our officers have had previous careers in policing, armed forces, hospitality, tourism, farming and many other industries where their skills are transferrable.

“The next training course starts in January, so now is the time to apply if you are looking for a meaningful first, second or third career with opportunities for progression and diversity of work, to consider if their skills and experience are a good fit to become a Custodial Correctional Officer with QCS”.
