QCS officer to represent Queensland at National Rugby Championship
A Brisbane South Community Corrections officer will represent Country Queensland during this year’s National Rugby Championship, which will kicked off last month.
Carter is a Case Manager and plays a vital role in protecting the community by managing some of the most complex and challenging individuals in society.
He does this by assessing offender risks, monitoring conditions, tailoring supervision needs and encouraging rehabilitation to support offenders with their reintegration back into the community.
His skills in supporting the Brisbane South Community Corrections team and when assisting offenders are abilities he has carried across to his role as Prop on the field.
Brisbane South District Manager Alice Doyle said Carter’s resilience and determination would be reflected on the national stage.
“Community Corrections is a unique workplace that is challenging at times, but also very rewarding. Carter’s optimistic, friendly nature and empathy for others allows him to build rapport with offenders on his caseload.
As is the case on the rugby field, Community Corrections is a team environment. Carter is very much a team player and is always willing to put his hand up for new tasks and support his colleagues” Ms Doyle said.
Carter said that his inclusion in the side came as a surprise, but acknowledged it came after a lot of hard work.
“I am excited by the challenge to be a part of the Queensland Country team! I’ve played rugby union since I was a kid and I enjoy being part of a team which strives to work for one another, both on and off the field.
I feel this is the same and the QCS team environment, everyone is willing to go above and beyond and support each other through some pretty tough times.
“We are all individuals, but by working towards a collective goal, we are able to be the best we can be, whether it’s a work team or football team,” he said.
The National Rugby Championship started on August 31 in Perth and will conclude with the grand final on October 26.
