Remembrance Day 2025
Remembrance Day 2025
Acknowledging Service and Commitment within Queensland Corrective Services
Today, we come together to mark Remembrance Day – a solemn occasion observed across the world each year on 11 November.
Whether it is called Remembrance Day, Poppy Day, Armistice or Veterans Day, it is a day to commemorate the end of World War 1.
It is only fitting we take a moment out of our busy lives to remember those who served, and especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect the world against tyranny.

On November 11, 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front and Belgium, bringing to an end four years of warfare.
World War 1 claimed more than 60 thousand Australian lives – an immense sacrifice for a country of just five million people at the time.
At 11am, we observe a minute’s silence, reflecting on their courage, dedication, and the freedoms their service protected.
In today’s society, Remembrance Day remains more than just a tradition. It’s a powerful reminder of the values that underpin our nation: sacrifice, resilience, mateship, and an unwavering commitment to protecting one another.
These values are not only the foundation of our Defence Forces – they’re also at the heart of who we are as Queenslanders.
Why Remembrance Day is Important to QCS
At Queensland Corrective Services, Remembrance Day carries special significance. We are proud to have many veterans and reservists among our ranks, making an invaluable contribution to our agency.
QCS is committed to being an employer of choice for those seeking a meaningful second career after their service in the Defence Forces.
We recognise that veterans and reservists bring with them a wealth of transferable skills – from leadership and teamwork, to discipline, adaptability, and a deep commitment to protecting the community.
Their training and experience enable them to serve with distinction, both in uniform and in the vital roles they play within QCS. Their sense of duty and integrity strengthens our workforce and helps us deliver on our mission to deliver safety for the people of Queensland.
Valuing Veterans and Reservists at QCS
We value our veterans and reservists not just for their service to the nation, but for the qualities they bring to our team every day. Their dedication, problem-solving abilities, and commitment to public safety make them exceptional colleagues and leaders within QCS.
On this Remembrance Day, we acknowledge and thank those who have served Australia, and who have now chosen to serve Queensland. We honour your sacrifice, your service, and the unique strengths you bring to our agency and our community.
Lest we forget.
