Visits restricted at all Qld prisons
Due to community cases of COVID-19 in Far North Queensland and ongoing contact tracing efforts across the State, the decision has been made to restrict visits to all Queensland prisons.
This decision will be reviewed with Queensland Health as soon as the situation in the community is better understood, and we will reinstate visits as soon as it is safe to do so.
This decision was made after consideration of the vulnerable prisoner group in FNQ and links to regional and remote communities, all of whom are at greater risk from COVID-19 than the general community.
Families are reminded that virtual personal visits, prisoner email, mail and telephone contacts are still available.
We appreciate the impacts that cancelling visits have on prisoners and their families, and we will reinstate visits as soon Queensland Health indicates it is safe to say so.
Community corrections offices in Cairns, Mareeba and Innisfail have also moved to stage 3 restrictions. If you were due to visit one of these offices, please call to make alternative arrangements.
Queensland Corrective Services encourages visitors to our centres to get vaccinated at the first available opportunity. Our officers are reminded that they are also eligible for vaccination.
