18 new officers, trainer recognised at ceremony

Townsville Correctional Complex (TCC) will welcome 18 new custodial correctional officers –and acknowledge the woman who trained them – at a ceremony in Townsville tomorrow.

General Manager of TCC, Chief Superintendent Louise Kneeshaw congratulated and welcomed the new officers.

“Together, we will work to make the Townsville community safer through our five guiding principles of our 10-year road map, Corrections 2030 – safety, excellence, empowerment, accountability and respect,” Ch Supt Kneeshaw said.

“Joining their colleagues at TCC, the new officers will help to transform the lives of those under our supervision, reducing offending and making the community safer,” Chief Supt. Kneeshaw said.

One of TCC’s most experienced officers, Staff Training Coordinator Catherine Saxby will also be presented with her 30-year Long Service and Good Conduct Medal.

Chief Supt. Kneeshaw thanked Ms Saxby for her dedication, professionalism and commitment to protect the community.

“Corrections officers deal with the most challenging and complex people in Queensland society. They perform a difficult role that requires significant personal resilience and an absolute commitment to public safety,” Chief Supt. Kneeshaw said.

“It is hard to fathom just how many lives Ms Saxby may have turned around, how many crimes she prevented from occurring, and how many families have a brighter future thanks to her ongoing commitment to rehabilitation of prisoners and the safety and security of our centres.

“Officers with this level of experience provide our newer officers with confidence to guide them through the dynamic environments that are our prisons, helping to keep them safe,” Chief Supt. Kneeshaw said.
