Bush fire preparedness

Bushfires are impacting communities across Queensland.  Conditions are expected to remain hot, dry and windy, with areas of high and extreme fire danger predicted, and we are not even into summer yet.

A lot of work has gone into preparing for this disaster season across the State, with QCS’ Disruptive Events Management Unit providing support in planning.

We are also assisting in practical ways such as supporting officers who volunteer with local or rural fire stations to get their boots on the ground.

Laundry workers at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre have increased their workload to ensure firefighters in Far North Queensland have clean clothing and bedding at the end of the day.

We are committed to community safety, and our low custody work camps are always ready to lend a hand with recovery efforts where needed.

We also remind everyone to ensure family and friends are bushfire aware and stay safe by having a Bushire Survival Plan in place.
