Far North graduates join frontline as Queensland Government nears new milestone of corrections officers delivered

• 25 new Custodial Correctional Officers graduate in Mareeba.
• Graduates will strengthen frontline staffing at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre
• The Queensland Government’s delivery of new corrections officers nears its next milestone.

Queensland Corrective Services has welcomed the latest cohort of Custodial Correctional Officers to the frontline at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre, with 25 new recruits graduating the Custodial Officer Entry Program in Mareeba today.

They join more than 200 new custodial officers currently graduating in Mareeba, Maryborough, Townsville and Brisbane and 49 Community Corrections officers graduated from Foundations training since April.

At the ceremony, an officer with 19 years’ experience was recognised with the National Medal and Commissioner’s Medallion for Retiring Officers.

Corrective Services Minister Gerber said every new graduate would make an immediate contribution to community safety and congratulated them on this significant achievement.

“The Crisafulli Government continues to bolster frontline workers by investing in the training, resources and support officers need to succeed, and I wish the new recruits all the best as they embark on this next exciting chapter on the frontline,” Minister Gerber said.

“This continued investment in a well-trained frontline workforce ensures our correctional centres are more secure to work in, rehabilitation outcomes are stronger, and communities across Queensland are safer.”

Lotus Glen Correctional Centre General Manager Chief Superintendent Gabrielle Payne congratulated the graduates on successfully completing the rigorous training program and welcomed them to the agency.

“We are strengthening our frontline supporting reform and rehabilitation, helping to reduce crime, creating fewer victims and building safer communities,” Ch Supt Payne said.

“Our officers are our greatest asset, and I wish them well as they embark their new frontline community safety role.”
