Maryborough Correctional Centre welcomes new recruits

Maryborough Correctional Centre will welcome 11 new custodial correctional officers when they are sworn in at a ceremony tomorrow, and it is on the hunt for another 50 candidates in coming months.

General Manager, Chief Superintendent Kris Winter congratulated and welcomed the graduates to Maryborough Correctional Centre (MCC).

“Thanks to the graduates, and all Queensland Corrective Services officers, for your commitment and dedication to keeping the Wide Bay community safe,” Ch Supt Winter said.

“The new recruits will join their colleagues at Maryborough Correctional Centre, helping to transform the lives of those under our supervision, making the community safer by reducing offending.

Maryborough Correctional Centre recently began a recruitment campaign to find Wide Bay locals or those wanting to move to the area to fill 50 permanent, secure full-time positions.

Ch Supt Winter encouraged people from all walks of life and experiences to consider the challenge of a career in corrective services.

“We are looking for good communicators who want to make a real difference to people’s lives, making the Wide Bay area a safer place for everyone,” Ch Supt Winter said.

“Anyone who is looking a meaningful career which an offer excellent work life balance has the chance to become a custodial correctional officer and enjoy the Wide Bay lifestyle.

An assessment centre will take place in early November for potential custodial correctional officers, with the first 10-week paid, onsite training course starting in January next year for 25 trainees and a second in April.
