New officers bolster corrections frontline

• New Custodial Correctional Officers graduate in Brisbane
• Graduates will strengthen frontline staffing across correctional centres in SEQ

 

Queensland Corrective Services has welcomed the latest cohort of Custodial Correctional Officers to the frontline, with 136 new recruits graduating the Custodial Officer Entry Program in Brisbane on 18 September.

They join almost 100 new custodial officers graduating this month in Rockhampton, Mareeba, Maryborough and Townsville.

 

Since November 2024, more than 2,000 new corrections officers have been trained and deployed to boost frontline ranks and reduce reoffending to make Queensland communities safer.

Minister for Corrective Services Laura Gerber said the graduates would make an immediate contribution to community safety.

“Every new officer who joins Queensland Corrective Services strengthens our frontline and helps restore safety where Queenslanders live,” Minister Gerber said.

“This Government committed to backing our corrections workforce with the resources, training and support they need, and our graduations around the state are another clear sign we are delivering.

“These officers are stepping into challenging but incredibly rewarding careers, and I thank them for choosing to serve Queensland as part of our frontline public safety workforce.”

 

Queensland Corrective Services Acting Commissioner Jon Peach congratulated the graduates on completing the rigorous training and welcomed them to QCS.

“Custodial Correctional Officers are central to community safety, and this graduating cohort will make a real difference from day one by keeping our correctional centres safe, supporting rehabilitation and helping break the cycle of reoffending,” A/Commissioner Peach said.

“We are proud to welcome them to Queensland Corrective Services and look forward to supporting them as they build meaningful careers across our state.”

There is a wide range of career paths and opportunities with Queensland Corrective Services working in custodial environments and in the community.

QCS is recruiting now for positions across Queensland, including custodial officers, programs and education officers, case managers, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers and counsellors working in correctional mental health.
