Sunshine Coast Community Corrections band together to help injured wildlife

Community Corrections officers on the Sunshine Coast have worked together with offenders under their supervision to provide comfort and supplies to injured wildlife following recent bushfires.

A call was put out to Maroochydore Community Corrections for donations, and the team dug deep and collected medical supplies, blankets, birdseed, baby wipes and paw paw ointments to help the wildlife centre care for injured animals.

The officers also enlisted the help of a number of offenders under their supervision and delivered a bag of dog toys that were made by offenders as part of their community service projects.

As part of the community service sewing project, marsupial pouches are also being made to donate to the centre.

The RSPCA Eumundi Wildlife Centre was thrilled to receive the donations at a time where the number of animals in their care has increased.

Regional Manager, Superintendent Ursula Roeder said that QCS officers are always committed to make positive changes by working with people who are under our supervision and helping the community.

“Our officers are deeply embedded in community right across Queensland and are very passionate about making a difference,” Superintendent Roeder said.

“Offenders that are under our supervision need to be given the chance to give back to the community.

By providing them with a meaningful way to do that, our community corrections officers act as true agents of change for Queensland.

We have all seen the devastation the recent bushfires have had on wildlife in Queensland, so we are thrilled to help vulnerable and injured animals through our community service projects and our generous officers.”
