Visits recommence across Queensland as restrictions ease

Visits will recommence at all correctional centres across Queensland in line with eased community restrictions as of 6am, Friday July 30.

All correctional centres and community corrections offices across Queensland will revert to Stage 1 restrictions, however mandatory mask wearing will continue in all centres and offices from Woodford Correctional Centre south to the border.

This means that, following the advice of Queensland Health, all correctional centres in Queensland are able to welcome personal visits from July 30.

Please contact the relevant correctional centre for details of current visitor numbers permitted under COVID-Safe plans, to book one-hour contact and non-contact visits.

Virtual Personal Visits and Prisoner Email can still be booked and used as normal. Cultural, official legal and visits from elders are able to occur.

All Community Corrections offices will operate under Stage 1 restrictions, with mandatory mask wearing will continue in North Coast, Southern and Brisbane regions.

Anyone entering a correctional centre will continue to undergo health screening and temperature checks. For the safety of our officers and the prisoners in our care, please do not come for a visit if you are unwell or showing any COVID-19 symptoms, even if they are minor (please self-isolate and get tested immediately).

Where social distancing is not possible between other officers or prisoners, in accordance with current Queensland Health advice, masks are recommended.

All correctional centres have a COVID-Safe plan in place, including the requirement for social distancing, hygiene and other fundamental measures that help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

We also continue to pay close attention to regular cleaning of frequently touched surfaces as well as maintaining regular hand washing or sanitising, good cough and sneeze etiquette and adhere to workplace COVID-safe plans.

We understand that restrictions have had an impact on those in our care, especially on their families and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time.

A cautious approach as well as stringent planning and execution has served us well and has kept COVID-19 out of our centres, and we thank you for your patience.
