Further restrictions at Queensland Corrective Services Facilities

Due to ongoing confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the community in Queensland, the decision has been made to suspend all visits in prisons and community corrections offices across Queensland.

This means that Townsville Correctional Complex, Lotus Glen Correctional Centre, Northern Region Community Corrections and Far Northern Region Community Corrections will now move to Stage 3 in line with the rest of the state.

This decision was made to protect the safety of prisoners, offenders and our officers on advice from Queensland Health. All correctional centres have implemented Stage 3 restrictions until further notice.  Community Corrections offices Statewide are also in Stage 3 restrictions.

This will allow Queensland Health the time to better understand the impact and scale of community transmission and any associated risks.

Every essential worker entering a prison will undergo health screening including thermal imaging, and must wear a mask.

We understand that this will have an impact, especially on families and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding at this time.

There are many other ways to continue to contact a prisoner.

You can learn more about virtual visits here and prisoner email.

We’ll continue to work with Queensland Health, and as soon as they can tell us it is safe to do so, we will ease these restrictions.
